Robert, it sounds like the CoCT have CocTed this one up...a bit. Unfortunately when a bureaucrat fucks up, they will do everything to deflect the issue and blame every other person or use every other issue to try and make out like it is not them that is at fault.
Thanks for taking issue with this. Let us hope that they see the light and stop trying to turn this simple processinto and mindfuck of red tape.
BTW, do all TAXI drivers and their owners have PL insurance?...

Why does a person, or a governing body have to lay claim to something that does not belong to them. The beauty of the nature in CT does not belong to anyone. How can a government who was voted in to manage the province want to issue a permit/license/pass to 'allow' another person to photograph the nature around CT. It belongs to everyone. Remember, you can be voted out as well.

Hi Zaheer, the permits are free but the problem is the time and process you need to go through to get one that makes shooting for a freelancer prohibitive if not impossible in some cases.

I think that this is utterly rubbish & insulting that a permit is needed just to take a few shots. Will the City be asking the tourists to get a permit to take pics so they can go back home & say that these pics cost me a shit load of money & here is the best part of it all, i took them myself.

Just saw this whole issue. Personally only problems we have is that of the attitude of the staff there "take it or leave it". As we do all own production in house for catalogues, commercial, etc we have no choice but to register. The online system is great (not having to deal with faxes or staff at CTFPO), but for small personal shoots, what a pain in the ass.

Also SANparks... absolutely horrifically priced.

I find this insulting and honestly disgusting... It is this that is destroying the market for all media industries it is this that is destroying growing potential with international relations for the media industries. Once this is lifted the better it will be for Cape Town and the people.

More and more obsticals in our way trying to make an honest living. You can walk freely and pick-pocket tourists, and nothing will happen to you .. .but boy! Don't dare take out your camera - !!!!!
I'm working with a lot of overseas tourist making Cape Town their wedding destination - many many times only the 2 of them getting married on a private spot somewhere on a beach or on top of Table Mountain, spending their money in our City ... now through this and more and more nitty gritty stuff concerning couples from abroad getting married in CT with paperwork, etc - we manage quite well in chasing them away.
Thank you CT ... you want tax money from us ... so how do you think we must earn that tax money?

What about the vendors harrassing you on the beach with their cheap sunglasses from China?????? Do they pay tax?????

You can register as a user as long as you are linked to a "production company"

The system not working is part of it but the question that is being dodged by City officials is why have "production" companies been given the controlling status and why is there a two tier system in the first place? Did the CTFO come up with this all on their own and if so based on what? Did they act on advice from only a small segment of the industry and if so why was the rest of the industry ignored?

These questions need to be answered and so far the City Officials we were talking to went very quiet when these questions were presented to them.

What was wrong with the old system where you simply registered with the City. This is all over and above the issue that the implementation of the permit policy is a total mess when it comes to small stills shoots...
